CHARLES AUGUSTUS LUHRS
A CASE STUDY
The Flickr case study illustrates the extensive collections, both public documents and manuscript and personal papers, held by the Center for Sacramento History. Using both sets of records, researchers can locate historical and genealogical information.
The combined public and private records held at CSH affords the researcher “one stop shopping” in discovering information about the people of the Sacramento region. In this case study, we examine the life of one prominent Sacramentan, Charles A. Luhrs, through the collections held at the Center.
Born in Prussia in 1844, Charles Augustus Luhrs immigrated to the United States in the 1860s and settled in Sacramento where he married and raised a family. He began his successful wholesale grocery career as a clerk.
